Sun International has announced that Anthony Leeming will officially step down as CEO on July 1 after a 26-year tenure. However, he will remain with Sun International until the end of December to ensure a seamless transition.
Leeming, who has led the group since 2017, is leaving to pursue personal opportunities outside the company.
He joined Sun International in 1999 as Group Finance Manager before being appointed Chief Financial Officer in 2013. During his leadership, he played a pivotal role in navigating the company through the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening the group’s financial position, expanding its presence in the online gaming sector, and enhancing customer experiences across its properties, including the iconic Sun City.
Bengtsson appointed new CEO
Sun International’s board has appointed Ulrik Bengtsson as its new CEO, effective July 1 or earlier, pending his work permit approval.
Bengtsson, a Swedish national, brings nearly two decades of executive experience in gaming, betting, broadcasting and telecoms.
He previously served as Group CEO of UK-based gaming company William Hill, where he led a successful turnaround before overseeing its sale to Caesars Entertainment.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University in Canada and has served as Chairman of Hostelworld, Raketech and Gamenation (UK), roles he will step down from as he prepares to relocate to South Africa.
