Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that Nigeria will roll out its electronic visa (e-visa) on May 1, two months later than originally planned.
Tunji-Ojo made the announcement on a post on X on April 9.
“Today, we continued with the engagement of key stakeholders ahead of the implementation of the new electronic visa (e-visa) system that is expected to commence on May 1, 2025, by bringing together all heads of agencies responsible for the seamless execution of the new module and migration framework,” said Tunji-Ojo.
The e-visa will enable foreign travellers, such as tourists, professionals or students, to apply for a visa online, by uploading the necessary documents and paying the required fees.
According to Tunji-Ojo, the transition aims to offer a smoother, faster experience, but also to combat intermediaries and administrative delays.
The e-visa is a collaborative effort, being headed by Tunji-Ojo and the Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. The project is being carried out in coordination with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and Nigerian Immigration Services.
