SAA CEO, John Lamola, has revealed SAA’s strategy to utilise Accra as a connecting hub, with plans to launch flights from Cape Town, via Accra, to the East Coast of the US, by the end of 2026.
Ghanaian radio station, My Joy, reported that Lamola made the announcement during a meeting with Ghana’s travel trade and media on Monday, April 8.
Lamola explained that, while SAA hoped to operate the route by the end of 2026, the carrier may face delays due to regulatory processes and the availability of aircraft.
SAA would increase flights between Johannesburg and Accra to daily.
He disclosed that discussions had already taken place with Ghana’s Minister for Transport on deepening the partnership and enhancing connectivity between the two nations.
On April 11, The Guardian Nigeria reported that, during a meeting with the Nigerian travel trade, Lamola also committed to launching daily flights f to Lagos by March 2026.
Additionally, he said that, as part of SAA’s West African expansion strategy, the carrier was eyeing connections between Cape Town and Nigeria due to increasing demand.
