On Friday, March 28, SAA finalised and signed an agreement with the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA) and the National Transport Movement (NTM) Pilot Forum, officially resolving the 10-month-long pilot wage negotiations.
The negotiations came to a close, following SAA’s most recent offer, made to the pilot associations on March 5.
The key details of the agreement are as follows:
- Salary adjustments: The parties agree to a three-year salary increase deal in which pilots will receive a 7,66% total cost of employment increase starting from April 1, 2025, April 1, 2026, and April 1, 2027.
- Longevity salary progression model: As part of the agreement to be implemented on April 1, 2025, a new salary progression model for pilots based on years of service will be introduced.
- Rostering changes: SAA agreed to SAAPA's proposals on rostering, which will take effect from May 1, 2025. These changes were determined not to compromise the scheduling of pilots or SAA’s route schedule.
- Leave: The parties agree to add one additional day of leave per year, with another day on voting years, to be scheduled round operational requirements to compensate for public holidays.
