Flight Centre Travel Group has appointed Mummy Mafojane GM of FCM South Africa, and Herman Heunes GM of Corporate Traveller South Africa.
Mafojane joined FCM in 2014 as a Travel Manager and has steadily risen through the ranks holding key positions such as Area Leader and Productive Operations Leader.
In her new role, she will grow the relationship between FCM and its clients, focusing on customer relationships and expanding data-driven insights.
Mafojane highlighted the evolution of corporate travel in South Africa and finding a balance between innovative digital solutions and traditional service models.
“Our customers are becoming increasingly tech-savvy. They want seamless, efficient booking experiences that make their lives easier. Our goal is to ensure we leverage technology in a way that strengthens the customer experience, not replaces the human element.”
Mafojane will step into her new role on April 1.
Herman Heunes, GM of Corporate Traveller South Africa
Heunes joined Corporate Traveller in 2012 in several leadership roles, including Team Leader and Operations Leader.
In his new role, Heunes will focus on innovation, operational excellence, and customer-first business travel solutions tailored for SMEs.
“As someone who has spent years fine-tuning operational efficiency and enhancing customer service delivery, I’m excited to build on this momentum. My experience has allowed me to understand what businesses need from their travel partner – seamless support, cost-effective solutions, and a proactive approach to evolving travel demands."
Heunes is committed to helping SMEs optimise their travel programmes while ensuring increased personalisation, efficiency, and cost control.
He will start in his new role on April 1, taking over from Bonnie Smith, who transitions to a new leadership position at Corporate Traveller UK.
New MD for Tourvest’s Afro-Asian division
Tourvest has appointed Akona Mdlulwa MD of Singapore Airlines GSA, Afro Asian Travel Services, which forms part of the integrated tourism company, the Tourvest Group.
This follows the retirement of Marilyn J Lewis, who served the business for the past six years.
An admitted attorney who joined the Tourvest family in 2019 as the Head of Commercial Law at Tourvest Travel Services, Mdlulwa has industry leadership experience and operational expertise.
“There is little doubt that this business is in excellent hands, with Akona’s appointment ensuring continuity. She is a seasoned member of the Tourvest family, with vast experience and knowledge of the broader sector and business. I look forward to seeing this business take advantage of the amazing tourism potential the Asian and African corridor offers,” says Lewis.
Mdlulwa holds an LLB from the University of Fort Hare, a PGDip in Commercial and Business Law from Wits University as well as various short course certificates in Finance and Leadership.
“Apart from living and breathing tourism every day, I also have a keen interest in African fashion and choral music and am mother to a busy toddler boy,” says Mdlulwa.
Tourvest Group Chief Executive Luvhengo Neswiswi thanked Lewis, who first joined Tourvest in 1997 as a Regional Finance Executive focused on the travel sector, for her excellent leadership and strategic focus on the business over the years.
