FATIMA Joosub was
rearrested earlier this
month on new fraud
charges. She was arrested
after she appeared in court
relating to fraud charges laid
against her in connection with
Ayka International Travel, of
which she was director. The
case was postponed until
February 13.
TNW understands that
the arrest took place in
Johannesburg on Wednesday,
January 17, on behalf of the
Pietermaritzburg police station,
also in relation to Ayka, and
that Fatima spent time in jail
before appearing in court with
her mother, Shameem Joosub,
on the Friday. The case has
been postponed until March 22
and Fatima has been released
on bail.
According to a statement
by the South African Police
Service, the pair are facing
about 35 counts of fraud,
allegedly in Cape Town,
Phoenix, Alberton, Douglasdale,
Sandton and Pietermaritzburg.
“Allegations against the
Joosubs are that they would
secure client bookings via
Ayka International Travels for
pilgrimage to Sai Baba Centre
in India. When the clients
arrive at the airport, they would
be informed that the tickets
were not fully paid and would
not be able to embark on their
journey,” the statement reads.
Asked by TNW about
the charges, both Fatima
and Shameem reserved
comment.
