Skytrax recently announced the winners of its 2023 World Best Airline Awards at a gala ceremony at the Paris Air Show.
Asian-based airlines dominated in the top placings of the world’s top 100 airlines for 2023. Below are the top 10 airlines of this year:

Commenting on Singapore Airlines being voted the top airline, CEO Goh Choon Phong said: “This award is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our people who worked tirelessly and made many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel. That has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic as a leading international airline.”
How did Africa’s airlines fare?
Several African-based airlines were placed within the overall top 100 this year. Ethiopian Airlines had the highest placing at 35th, while Royal Air Maroc came in at 53, followed by South African Airways at 72, Kenya Airways at 73, Air Mauritius at 78 and RwandAir at 90.

FlySafair received the award for the Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa 2023. FlySafair CMO Kirby Gordon said: “We are extremely proud to be receiving this award for the third time. From the start we have focused on providing a hassle-free travel experience with on-time performance as our primary differentiator. In this category, Fastjet took second place, Tunisia’s Nouvelair third, and Kenya-based fly540 and Jambojet fourth and fifth positions.
