Venice will charge day visitors a €10 (R214) entrance fee from April 18 until the end of July.
The €5 per person (R107) fee was introduced in 2024. It ran over 29 days from April until mid-July and earned the city €2,2 million (R47,1 million), as reported by Travel News.
This year, the higher rate will apply every day from April 18 to May 4, and then every weekend until the end of July between 08h30 and 16h00.
All visitors without an overnight reservation will have to pay the fee online. Visitors who pay more than four days in advance will receive a 50% discount, dropping the fee to €5.
The levy does not apply to visitors with hotel reservations or children under the age of 14 years.
