This weekend’s Netball Quad Series at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, which started on Saturday (January 21) and will run until Wednesday (January 25), serves as the perfect curtain-raiser for the World Cup later in July.
The series is a preparation tournament for four of the top-five ranked nations ahead of Africa’s first ever Netball World Cup.
National netball team, the SPAR Proteas, will be battling it out with top-ranked teams England, New Zealand and Australia during the four-day series.
“Tournaments like the Quad Series provide both an economic boost to our city and the perfect opportunity for teams to refine their gameplans ahead of the World Cup”, said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
All teams will be in action daily, with games at 16h00 and 18h00 on tournament days.
South Africa, ranked number five in the world, will kick off the tournament on Saturday against New Zealand, ranked number two, before top-ranked Australia plays against world number-three, England, in the later match.
