CRUISE operators
report that the
Mediterranean
is South Africa’s top
international cruise
destination. But, as
most cruise lines do not
operate in this region
during the European winter
months, SA operators
report growing interest
for alternative cruise
destinations during South
Africa’s peak holiday
period in December.
Jane Davidson,
director of Development
Promotions, says
Development Promotions’
most popular cruise
destination in December
is Norway, which offers
opportunities for clients to
experience the Northern
Lights
“Other exploration
cruises like Antarctica,
Asia and the Caribbean
are also perfect for that
time of year. Middle
Eastern cruises are
also an option over
December and are both
cost effective and easily
accessible for South
Africans,” says Jane.
However, she adds
that Costa still offers
Mediterranean cruises
throughout the year.
Thaybz Khan,
contemporary brand
manager of Cruises
International, and John
Ridler, PR and media
manager of Thompsons
Holidays, both suggest
the Caribbean, the UAE,
Far East and Australasia
as options for cruising in
December.
Janine Pretorius, owner
of Encore Cruises, says
Regent Seven Seas
is offering a spread
of destinations this
December, with itineraries
running in the Caribbean,
South America, the South
Pacific, South East Asia
and Australasia.
