Baltic rail travel introduces one ticket
Rail providers LTG Link, Vivi and Elron in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have partnered to offer travellers a single ticket to travel through the Baltics from Vilnius to Tallinn.
The tickets are available on the LTG Link website for £32 (R743) one-way. The journey between Vilnius and Tallinn includes stops in Riga and Valga.
The full journey takes eight and a half hours. However, after completion of the Rail Baltica project – creating rail links between Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas, Vilnius and Warsaw – this journey will take less than four hours. The project is expected to be completed in 2030.
London’s St Pancras triples capacity
Highspeed and Eurotunnel have partnered to improve connectivity and increase capacity for cross-channel journeys from London’s St Pancras train station.
Highspeed is currently the UK’s only international high-speed rail line with direct routes between London and Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam and seasonal ski services in the French Alps.
In collaboration with Eurotunnel, Highspeed aims to access routes between London and major European cities such as Frankfurt, Zurich and Milan.
According to euronews.com, several operators are also seeking to capitalise on the station’s planned expansion including the Virgin Group and new Spanish operator Evolyn.
Amtrak resumes Gulf Coast services
Amtrak’s Gulf Coast train, linking New Orleans in Louisiana and Mobile in Alabama, is expected to relaunch services by June.
The three-hour journey follows the southern US shoreline, passing through Louisiana and coastal Mississippi before arriving in Alabama, according to nationalgeographic.com.
The train will run twice a day between New Orleans and Mobile, once in the morning and evening in each direction, with stops in Bay St Louis and Biloxi.
Services have been suspended for almost 20 years following Hurricane Katrina, which destroyed the tracks and several bridges in 2005.
