Beachcomber Tours’ md, Terry Munro, spoke to eTNW about how the business was coping with COVID-19 and the national lockdown.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented time in our history, as we all continue to navigate these unique and evolving challenges that affect every aspect of our lives. Businesses are under stress and many are facing uncertainty and significant hardship – let’s continue to remain hopeful and helpful,” said Terry.
“A key factor is that we now have no revenue,” said Terry. “The Beachcomber team are still busy as so many bookings have to be amended or cancelled, and changes in the way we work are implemented.”
The business has cut costs wherever possible, and all staff are set up to work from home. “As a team we keep encouraging each other and others, as the challenges are unavoidable, and we can grow and learn from them. It’s a time to share ideas, stay fit (body and mind), set your eyes on the future, be positive, be kind, and be helpful,” Terry said.
Terry’s advice to the rest of the travel industry is to use the time to improve systems, strategise and plan; show courage and support to those who suffer economic hardships, and look after staff to the best of one’s abilities. “Our staff need to have confidence in the future, to survive and reap the benefits post COVID-19.”
