AGENTS sending
travellers to Austria
to ski should not be
deterred by recent reports
of fatal avalanches and
evacuations at ski resorts.
In fact, it’s a good time to
book, says Greg Taylor, gm
of Pure Skiing.
“Austria has received more
snow in these few weeks
than I’ve seen over the
past 12 years in the winter
sports industry,” he says.
The biggest risk for
South Africans heading to
Austria are delays getting
to resorts due to road
closures. The resorts in the
Pure Skiing portfolio have
largely been unaffected, with
minimal impact, says Greg.
“Currently, all routes to our
resorts are open.”
Greg also warns agents
to advise travellers to stick
to sanctioned ski areas to
avoid any danger. “There is
the risk that certain slopes
will be closed on selected
days due to the clearing of
avalanche risks. If skiers
stay on-piste the risk in
skiing is minimal,” he says.
