Acsa has released a statement advising that, due to refuelling challenges at OR Tambo International Airport, airlines are currently unable to refuel aircraft as normal. As a result, some flights may experience delays.
At approximately 10h00 this morning (October 9) airlines were alerted to a technical issue affecting the airport's fuelling infrastructure which means that the airport is unable to provide fuel to aircraft.
The result is that several flights have been severely delayed as aircraft fill the spaces at OR Tambo creating traffic constraints.
This disruption is set to have a ripple effect across the country as aircraft intended for flights on other routes get stuck at OR Tambo awaiting restoration of the fuel supply, FlySafair said in a media statement.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and technicians are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. We will continue to keep passengers informed of any updates,” said Acsa.
Meantime, passengers are encouraged to contact their respective airlines directly for further information.
Alternatively, they can download the Acsa Mobile App and subscribe to their flight for live flight notifications to stay up to date with any changes.
