As Mexico continues to keep armed military personnel at tourist hotspots, troops are now being deployed in Tulum, one of the most popular cities in Quintana Roo.
More than 50 soldiers will protect visiting tourists.
Officials in Mexico are hoping to welcome more travellers back to the nation post-pandemic, despite ongoing gang violence and shootings. Personnel are also patrolling Tulum National Park, as reported by Mexican news outlet The Cancun Sun.
This development comes after the US government chose not to change its travel advisory for Mexico, despite a January incident between the army and a drug cartel where three aircraft were fired on following the arrest of cartel leader Ovidio Guzmán.
