Italy’s Via dell’Amore (Path of Love), the popular hiking path along the Cinque Terre Unesco World Heritage Site plans to reopen within next year after being closed for 10 years.
According to edition.cnn.com, the path closed in 2012 after a landslide damaged parts of the trail, leaving it unstable. Following years of refurbishment, the first section has reopened for a preview until the end of September, and the whole trail will reopen in July 2024.
The 121-kilometre path creates trails around the five villages of Cinque Terre – Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
To prevent overtourism and protect the landscape at the popular tourist destination, hikers can participate only in guided tours at a cost of just over $5 (R96), to access the path.
