MSC Cruises opened the world’s largest cruise terminal on April 5 at PortMiami, which will serve as the home port for MSC World America.
The new terminal is also the first to provide a fully biometric embarkation process, using digital identity verification. Guests who have opted to use the biometric technology will scan their passport and look into the camera of one of the biometric face pods to validate their information. They will then enter through a biometric e-gate.
The cruise terminal will be able to process as many as 36 000 passengers in a day.
MSC also inaugurated the new MSC Barcelona terminal with the first call of Explora II at the terminal, the company announced on April 3.
Features include a retail area, a waiting lounge and VIP area for premium and luxury guests. The exterior design pays tribute to the artistic history of Barcelona.
This summer, MSC World Europa, MSC Seaview, MSC Seaside, MSC Magnifica and MSC Orchestra will offer embarkation in Barcelona as part of their sailings in the Mediterranean. Luxury ship Explora II will regularly call throughout the summer season with Barcelona as one of its main homeports.
