NH Hotels, part of Minor Hotels, has decided not to extend the lease of the NH Cape Town Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, following a detailed feasibility study.
The four-star hotel has been home to one of South Africa’s leading conference venues for the past three decades, and has previously hosted former President Nelson Mandela.
The property will be handed back to the owners when the lease ends on August 31.
NH Hotels is not able to comment on the future of the property. The owners have said they do not require the property to be returned to them as a going concern and operations will, therefore, cease.
As a consequence, many of the staff who have been with the hotel for a number of years will be retrenched.
NH Hotels is fully committed to ensuring all team member dues and entitlements as result of this decision will be fully provided for prior to the conclusion of the lease.
