ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) has produced a document providing the framework for the mitigation of public health risk to air passengers and aviation workers, while strengthening confidence among the travelling public, the global supply chain and governments.
The document is regarded by Iata as the global standard for safe operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the organisation urges governments across the world to adopt the framework to achieve a harmonised, common, global approach. https://www.icao.int/covid/cart/Pages/CART-Take-off.aspx
Its aim is to assist in accelerating demand for essential and non-essential air travel impacted by COVID-19. ICAO estimates that by the end of 2020, the pandemic’s impact on scheduled international passenger traffic could see a reduction of up to 71% of seat capacity and a reduction of 1,5bn passengers year on year.. Airlines face losses of US$314bn (R5,3trn) and airports US$100bn (R1,7trn) for 2020.
