Holland America Line has announced the start of its long-term testing of biofuel on its flagship, Rotterdam.
Rotterdam, which departed from the Netherlands on April 27, is sailing within the Norwegian World Heritage Fjords, with one of its four engines operating on low carbon intensity oil.
The GoodFuels MR1-100 biofuel, supplied by FincoEnergies, is produced from waste fat leftovers from feedstock processing. FincoEnergies says the biofuel will yield an estimated 86% reduction in life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions.
