The European Union has postponed the launch of its European Travel and Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) yet again.
ETIAS was originally due to launch in 2022 but was postponed. The launch date was then moved to May 1, 2023 and in January, it was delayed again to November 2023.
According to SchengenVisaInfo, the launch has now been postponed to 2024, with no specific dates given yet.
The delay has happened without warning from the EU, with the date having simply been changed on the EU Commission’s Migration and Home Affairs website. The website now reads: “It is expected that the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will be operational in 2024.”
Iata recently released a statement saying that although the airline industry supports the roll-out of the system, there are still issues that must be resolved before this can happen.
