Club Med is going ahead with its South African resort, to be sited on the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal, just north of Ballito and only 32km from King Shaka International Airport.
It will be the first Club Med in South Africa. The French luxury resort group has been eyeing the North Coast for more than 10 years.
The association with the premium brand Club Med, one of the most famous names in all-inclusive vacations, is a coup for developers, Collins Residential. It also bodes well for an ecologically sensitive venture. The Collins Group has been involved in several eco-tourism developments in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, such as Alphonse Island in the Seychelles, Machaba Safaris, Bayete Zulu Safari, Pondo Beach Camps and many more.
A signature ceremony will be held at the Oyster Box, Umhlanga, during September.
Given that its name is to be Club Med Tinley, the beach resort development is believed to planned on 30 hectares of prime land at the small seaside town of Tinley Manor, north of Ballito. This site was the favourite when local press were speculating on the site in 2019. At that time, press reports said the construction was planned to start in 2020 and the project was to have been completed in 2022.
KZN’s North Coast, with its sunshine and warm Indian Ocean waters is a perfect year-round beach destination for a family-oriented brand like Club Med. Plus, it has Big 5 Game Reserves easily reachable from the resort site, for what will surely be popular game-viewing safaris.
