Margate Airport has, since last Tuesday, August 1, been temporarily downgraded to a Category 2 Airport.
This means that until it is upgraded once more to a Category 4, Cemair’s flights are unable to land in Margate. Smaller aircraft are still able to land at Margate Airport.
Passengers already booked on Cemair’s Margate flights are being re-routed on Cemair’s Durban flights to King Shaka Airport, from where the passengers are apparently being shuttled to Margate.
Travel News has heard from sources that the cause of the downgrade is a breakdown of the single fire-fighting truck at the airport.
Repairs are underway but it is still unknown when they will be complete and when the airport will be upgraded to its normal category 4 status, at which time the Cemair flights will recommence.
Cemair’s website shows that flights will be available from Tuesday, August 8.
