DURBAN is expecting an additional 6 000 international visitors in July 2006 following the announcement this week that the country, and ultimately the city, has beaten both Sweden and Brazil in a bid to host the 2006 Congress of the International Sociological Association at the city's International Convention Centre (ICC).
This follows the successful staging of the XIII International AIDS Conference in June this year, during which the tourism and other related industries were considerably boosted.
The South African Sociological Association and the KwaZulu Natal African Renaissance Initiative will host the five-day congress which was supported by the National Ministries of Education and Tourism, the Premier of KwaZulu Natal, Durban Africa and the Durban Metropolitan Council.
