Delta, LATAM expand partnership
DELTA Air Lines and LATAM will codeshare flights on up to 51 destinations in South America from the
first quarter of 2020. Flights will be operated by certain LATAM affiliates in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru,
pending receipt of applicable government approvals. The codeshare will also offer customers increased
connectivity for up to 74 onward destinations in the United States. The two airlines have been in
partnership since September, which led to LATAM’s official exit from the oneworld alliance. Delta says it
expects to expand codeshare opportunities to include more destinations in the near future.
New aircraft to replace United Airlines fleet
UNITED Airlines has purchased 50 new Airbus A321XLRs, as it starts to replace its existing fleet of Boeing
757-200s. The new aircraft will be used on selected transatlantic routes, and United expects to bring them
into service in 2024. The fleet overhaul will allow the carrier to explore serving more destinations in Europe
from its US east coast hubs in Newark/New York and Washington. The A321XLR will offer an improved
inflight experience and features larger overhead bin space and WiFi connectivity. United begins taking
delivery of the aircraft in 2024 and will defer its additional order of Airbus A350s until 2027
