AIR Mauritius is working toward
daily flights from Cape Town to
Mauritius and beyond in 2020, with
the launch date and type of aircraft
to be finalised in March, says
regional manager Southern Africa
and Latin America, Carla da Silva.
Speaking in Cape Town at
a special event, Carla said:
“We would like to get our newgeneration aircraft on the route but
this will depend on the support we
get from the travel industry.”
She said the airline’s
current twice-weekly A340
flights to the Mother City
contributed R200m toward
Air Mauritius’s R1bn
operation in South Africa.
She thanked the travel
trade and corporate
customers for making this
possible and appealed
to them to continue to
support Air Mauritius’s
growth on the route.
“We know that
Capetonians love to fly
direct, so help us so that
we can fly directly out
of Cape Town on a daily
basis. Cape Town remains
a very important strategic
market for Air Mauritius.”
Carla said the airline’s
Airbus A340 wide-body
aircraft offered value to
corporate and leisure
travellers.
Benefits include more
seat capacity and a better
product.
Direct accessibility via
Mauritius to an Africa-toAsia air corridor,
connecting South Africa
with India and Australia
faster than its Middle East
counterparts, while being
competitively priced, is
another benefit.
She said corporates and
VFRs were responding well
to value-adds such as the
airline’s free stopovers
in Mauritius and its
Travel Smart programme,
which offers free travel
for children, discounts
for honeymooners and
business-class lounge
access.
