Air Côte d’Ivoire has been named by the Confederation of African Football as official carrier for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The tournament runs from January 13 to February 11 and takes place across several host cities, including Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, San-Pédro, and Yamoussoukro, reports simpleflying.com.
The airline is responsible for transporting national teams, match officials, supporters, sports equipment, and other goods to and from the various games.
However, not all has been smooth sailing.
On January 10, the Gambian football team’s charter flight experienced pressurisation issues, with players enduring extreme heat during their flight to AFCON. Ten minutes into the flight, the aircraft turned back.
Air Côte d’Ivoire released a statement saying that the team had arrived four hours after their scheduled departure time. The delay meant that both the maintenance and cabin crews assigned to the originally scheduled flight were required to attend to other flights. As a result, the second departure on the carrier’s replacement aircraft was delayed and had to stop twice in Istanbul and Casablanca.
