RENNIES Travel recently
held an event in
honour of José Cruz,
who celebrated a milestone
achievement of 50 years
with the company. Bronwyn
Philipps commended José
for always having time
for everyone and treating
each person he met with
the utmost respect. Lynn
Howarth thanked José
for his respect, dignity
and loyalty, calling him an
icon in the industry. José
started his career at Luz
Africa as a travel clerk
before moving to Rennies
Travel Yale branch in April
1969. He worked his
way to managerial level,
moving to Commissioner
Street and opening what
would become the Isando
branch. José oversaw
Rennies Specialised
Tours, implementing and
running its Visa Division.
In 1988, he became
marketing manager and
was instrumental in the
setting up of Rennies
Travel Options. Under
José, National Executive
Services was launched
in the 90s, with Rennies’
first 24/7 after-hours
division opening in 2001.
This role developed into
Client Services, where
José supports clients and
operations.
