Gabon has decided to drop its visa requirements for 24 countries, including South Africa.
According to the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA), this is part of the country’s efforts to grow its tourism sector, alongside more funding for airports, hospitality sectors and roads.
Gabon features vast natural landscapes, with 11% of the country dedicated to protected national parks. With a dedication to ecological protection, Gabon is known for gorilla trekking in the Loango and Moukalaba Doudou National Parks.
In addition to South Africa, travellers from Chad, the Republic of Congo, Cameroon and the Central African Republic will also be visa exempt.
