Update: This story was corrected at 10h45 on November 11 to correctly reflect in para 4 that the flights are between Cape Town and Durban.
Domestic airline, Lift, today (November 10) opened sales for its newly launched Cape Town-Durban route. And with this announcement, is officially completing the popular Golden Triangle between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
“We’re delighted to announce this latest route addition which connects Cape Town to Durban. Not only will this add much-needed capacity on to the route but will also offer passengers a real business-class alternative; we call it LIFT Premium,” said Jonathan Ayache, co-Founder and CEO of Lift.
He said the airline would offer its booking flexibility on this route, which allows passengers to change and cancel flights without any fees or penalties. “We will also have our dog-friendly flights as an option between Durban and Cape Town.”
The first flight between Cape Town and Durban will take off on November 25, with two return flights per day.
The schedule is as follows:
Cape Town departures
· Flight GE372 departs Cape Town (daily) at 06h00 and arrives in Durban at 08h05.
· Flight GE374 departs Cape Town for Durban (daily) at 15h00, arriving in Durban at 17h05.
Durban departures
· Flight GE373 departs Durban at 09h00 (daily) and arrives in Cape Town at 11h15.
· Flight GE375 leaves Durban at 18h05 (daily) and arrives in Cape Town at 20h20.
Navigating a turbulent period
Launched at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Lift has, according to Ayache, managed to navigate a turbulent two years in the domestic airline industry. Remaining sustainable has also played a big role in the airline’s growth.
“We have and will continue to add capacity and new routes gradually and responsibly, as operating sustainably is critical to our business model and the industry as a whole,” commented Ayache.
This announcement follows the launch of Lift’s route between Johannesburg and Durban on October 26.
