Reacting to the turmoil caused by the new restrictions on South Africans travelling abroad, Bryte Insurance has issued a release concerning special cancellation or curtailment cover for an unnamed reason, and reiterated its cover options relating to COVID-19 and its policy wording related to recoverable costs.
The insurance company emphasises that with the changing travel restrictions and quarantine requirements affecting South African travellers, it is imperative the traveller has a clear understanding of their travel destination’s requirements, including transit requirements. The traveller should also ensure they have cover in place for their travel needs before embarking on their journey.
Anrieth Symon, Head of Travel at Bryte Insurance pointed out that the company’s travel insurance policyholders continue to be fully covered for emergency medical and related expenses should they contract the COVID-19 virus while on an international journey. While insurance does not provide cover in the event of travel bans or restrictions, the purchase of optional additional cover could provide flexibility should the traveller choose to cancel or cut an insured journey short for an unnamed reason. This optional additional cover is available on select travel insurance plans and cover is subject to specific terms, conditions and exclusions.
The insurer also said it is important to note that (as per the policy wording), where the travel service provider has offered compensation to the policyholder (in the form of a voucher/refund/credit, etc), insurance does not respond.
