SOUTH African National Parks (SANP) has issued an urgent warning about a group of unscrupulous individuals, clad in SANP look-alike uniforms, selling items such as pens and key-holders supposedly to raise funds for nature conservation.
"We advise the public that this is a scheme to defraud them of their money. The individuals involved have no mandate from the SANP to raise funds at street corners, shopping centres or holiday destinations such as Hartbeespoort Dam," says SANP head of corporate affairs, Dr Salifou Siddo.
The only SANP public fundraising initiative still active is the Kruger National Park Disaster Relief Fund which is collecting donations to help rebuild the infrastructure of the Kruger damaged by the floods in February.
Members of the public who wish to contribute to this fund can do so at:
First National Bank
Bank City Branch
Branch Code 250805
Account Number: 6201 4877 156
The matter of illegal fundraising activities on behalf of the SANP has been reported to the police.
