Augmented reality troll hikes are available at Trollheimen (Home of the Trolls) in Norway, which houses the world’s only troll research station.
Using augmented reality tablets, guests can ‘see’ and ‘hear’ these invisible creatures rumoured to dwell in Trollheimen’s isolated rocks, mountains and caves.
Visitors can borrow a ‘troll detector’ from the troll lab for NOK500 (R870) and then follow one of two marked hiking trails along paths known to be inhabited by trolls. The first allows interaction with smaller trolls and the second with larger trolls.
Traditional Trollheimen flavours using seasonal ingredients can be sampled at the bakel (the local word for waffle) restaurant. Alternatively, campfire and sausage packages can be bought to cook on fire pans.
For those who want to stay overnight at troll-like camping sites, the Bollu Hollu troll cave, the suspended Tin’s Nest or the tree house at Fausk’s Square are available for NOK300 (R520) each.
