As the travel industry experiences a remarkable resurgence, Travel News is evolving to meet the renewed energy and opportunities within the sector. In response to the growing demand for dynamic content, the travel trade’s premium publication has appointed senior editors to expand its offerings and grow its flagship product.
“During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Travel News focused on delivering essential updates, temporarily pausing its features,” says Linda van der Pol, Sales Director of Now Media. “Now, with the industry thriving like never before, feature sales have surged, prompting an expansion of the editorial team to ensure Travel News continues to meet the needs of its readers and advertisers. At the same time, we have seen fantastic growth and engagement on our online products.”
Kate Nathan, who has expertly led Travel News as Editor since 2020, will transition into the full-time role of Features Editor. Having steered the publication through some of the industry’s most turbulent times, Kate will now focus on expanding the features section, delivering dynamic, reader-focused content and creating innovative promotional opportunities for advertisers.
Returning to the team is Sue van Winsen, who assumes the role of Editor for Travel News’s daily news mailer. With over a decade of experience at Now Media, Sue was previously Features Editor of Travel News during its print days. She also led Now Media’s inbound tourism publication, SA Tourism Update for many years. Sue’s extensive industry knowledge and editorial expertise make her the ideal leader to guide the team of journalists in providing timely, essential daily news that keeps travel agents informed and ahead of the curve. Part of Sue’s role will include serving as Travelinfo Plus Editor, bringing new and exciting features to the industry’s most trusted directory website, including alerts, visa info and city guides.
Kate and Sue will work closely with Natasha Schmidt, recently appointed Editorial Director at Now Media. Natasha will collaborate with the team to set the vision and direction for Travel News, aligning content strategy with the evolving needs of readers and advertisers.
Together, the trio will ensure Travel News remains innovative, relevant and committed to delivering exceptional journalism. “Collectively, the leadership team brings over 45 years of experience, ensuring a wealth of expertise to drive this next phase of growth,” says Anton Marsh, Managing Director of Now Media. “These changes mark an exciting new chapter for Travel News and Now Media as a whole. The travel industry’s recovery has presented incredible opportunities and we’re committed to staying at the forefront of innovation to seize them. By expanding our editorial team and enhancing our products, we’re not just responding to the market but driving it forward. We’re thrilled to see our outbound travel products evolve and I’m confident that this exceptional team will continue to lead the way in delivering value to our readers and partners.”
