Paris-Milan train service reopens
The rail line linking Paris to Turin and Milan will reopen on March 31, after being closed since August 2023 due to a landslide.
Rail operator SNCF will relaunch its service between Paris and Milan when the line opens, according to Senior Executive Alain Krakovitch. Trenitalia will resume operations on the line shortly after, on April 1.
SNCF will operate three services a day on the line and Trenitalia will operate twice a day.
Upgrades for UK train network
Plans to nearly halve train journey times between cities in the west of the UK were unveiled by the Western Gateway Partnership.
The partnership proposes to build 30 new stations, add 23 services an hour and upgrade six stations in the southwest of England and south Wales.
With these changes, train journeys between Bristol and London will be reduced from an hour and a half to an hour, and journeys between Bristol and Cardiff to 30 minutes from 50 minutes.
“The Western Gateway area is poised to be the fastest-growing region outside London, yet it has not had the critical investment in public transport infrastructure that other areas of the country have seen, particularly in rail,” said Sarah Williams-Gardener, Chair of the Western Gateway Partnership.
