Turkish Airlines plans to resume flights to a number of destinations in September and, according to an update on its website, these include Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
An updated flight plan, which shows the flights to be operated in September, says the airline will fly three times a week to Cape Town and one flight a week to Durban and Johannesburg.
Trevor Brown of Turkish Airlines marketing in Cape Town, confirms that the airline is ready to fly and will continue planting inventory in the system until borders are officially declared open. He cautions that the frequencies on the website are still under review and likely to change.
“We have the aircraft and capability to resume flights and we have already put flights in the [GDS] for the next few months. This inventory will remain and be [periodically] removed as time passes until borders open,” says Trevor. He says the airline is currently flying to over 150 destinations.
Turkish Airlines has five aircraft in the fleet that operates the SA route and all five have been sanitised and maintained in adherence with global COVID-19 protocols.
Other destinations included in next month’s schedule are Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Entebbe, Kigali, Morocco, Seychelles, Greece and Madagascar.
The update goes on to say that Turkish Airlines’ flexible changing rights allow for unlimited changes for ticketing made between March 21 and October 31, 2020.
