Thailand has ditched plans to impose a THB300 (R150) tourism fee on international tourists arriving by air from June 1.
“The fee... was abandoned with the rationale that its elimination could encourage higher tourist spending in other areas, thereby providing a more substantial boost to the economy,” said Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department.
The fee was approved by the country’s previous government in 2023. However, its implementation was delayed several times to allow tourism to recover after the pandemic.
Thailand has recently taken measures to boost tourism numbers, including offering extended visas for longer tourist stays.
