THE days of worrying about the future of the historic Parkes Manor Lodge hotel in the Western Cape town of Knysna seem to be over as Saturday's auction delivered a bid of R3,25m by a Johannesburg businessman.
The name of the bidder cannot yet be divulged as there is a seven-day confirmation period - which basically means that he could be outbid within the set period, and if he does not make a higher counter offer, the sale will go to the highest bidder.
Staff at the hotel are jubilant and have reported "high hopes" for the future.
"The businessperson has given his 10% deposit and the hotel has been sold as a going concern, so the staff are quite relieved that their futures seem secure," a staff member told Travel Now.
