The coming season (from
October) will see MSC
deploy two vessels to South
Africa. The MSC Musica
will operate out of Durban
calling at Portuguese
Island and Pomene in
Mozambique, while the MSC
Opera will sail out of Cape
Town to Walvis Bay and
Lüderitz.
This will be the first time
that two different classes
of MSC ships – Lirica and
Musica – will be deployed in
the country simultaneously,
says Ross. The ships will
alternate routes, providing
cruisers with a wider
choice of options.
Lirica vessels are built
along more classic lines
and are used to service
those destinations that
are inaccessible to larger
vessels. Being smaller there
are fewer cabins and fewer
guests. Musica vessels
have up to 20% more guest
capacity and facilities.
“This coming season we
will serve both the east and
the west coasts throughout
the summer,” says Ross.
“Our goal is to bring bigger
and better ships to the
country while at the same
time enriching our itineraries
as more South Africans are
realising that a cruise is an
affordable, convenient and
exciting holiday option.”
Local MSC cruise
itineraries are between
three and 14 nights.
This coming season, MSC
will promote its 14-night
New Year cruise around
Southern Africa. The cruise
will depart from Durban on
December 26. Destinations
include Portuguese Island;
Nosy Be, Madagascar; Port
Victoria in the Seychelles;
and Port Louis in Mauritius.
“What makes this cruise
particularly special is that
it will be the first time that
Port Victoria has been
included in the offering from
Durban, outside of MSC
Cruises’ Grand Voyage.”
