RwandAir has become the second airline in Africa, after Ethiopian Airlines, to sign the Iata Safety Leadership Charter.
The Charter is a global initiative designed to foster a robust safety culture within airlines. Signatories have pledged to uphold the highest safety standards, promote open communication and reporting of safety concerns, and continuously strive for improvement.
Over 40 airlines worldwide have signed the Charter since its inception in September 2023.
“At RwandAir, safety is not just a priority but a fundamental principle guiding our operations. Our organisational culture is deeply rooted in robust safety practices, making it the cornerstone of our operational integrity. By signing the Iata Safety Leadership Charter, we are not only reaffirming our unwavering commitment to a culture of safety but also recognising the imperative to continuously build on the work that has gone before,” said Yvonne Makolo, CEO of RwandAir.
The prioritisation of safety is emphasised in Iata’s Focus Africa initiative in the Collaborative Aviation Safety Improvement Programme (CASIP), which aims to address the obstacles hindering the growth of Africa’s aviation industry.
“Enhancing aviation safety in Africa is not just a critical priority; it’s a fundamental component of the continent’s overall development. Fostering a robust safety culture is paramount,” said Kamil Alawadhi, Iata’s Regional Vice-President for Africa and the Middle East.
