Qantas has launched its Qantas Distribution Platform (QDP) in South Africa.
This is Qantas’ NDC channel. After its initial roll-out in Australia and New Zealand, it has taken the next step, with the launch to South Africa, the UK and the US. It says it will at a later date launch to the rest of the globe, with the aim of providing agents globally with access to what it describes as “Qantas’ advanced retailing technology, making it easier and simpler to shop, book and service Qantas flights”.
Agents in South Africa will now have to opt in to access the fee-free channel and sign a channel agreement with the airline, getting access to the content either via their GDS or via a direct connect option. Otherwise they may continue to book using GDS content and pay the R170-per- sector fees.
“QDP has an established and growing network of Technology Partners including major GDS Travelport, Amadeus and Sabre and non-GDS tech partners,” says the carrier.
Qantas says that QDP is an important part of its broader digital evolution, and promises agents an efficient and seamless experience when they book the airline for their customers.
“As part of our commitment to NDC, we are continuing to implement new capabilities, features, and products which are designed to enhance your end-to-end retailing experience and to ensure our valued customers book with confidence via their preferred channel,” says the airline.
How do agents sign up?
Travel agencies may sign up by registering online. Once registered, they will avoid the R170 per sector channel fee for booking in the GDS.
“Agents have the option to either link to the QDP through their preferred Technology parent (GDS and non-GDS) or opt for a direct connect option – at the expense of the agency.
Those who join up will be at an advantage, according to the information received from head office in Sydney.
“NDC (QDP) content and offers will only be available to those agents who sign the Qantas Channel Agreement…Offers will be announced via the channel, for example, dynamic commission and Companion fare offers,” said the carrier.
