QANTAS will overhaul its loyalty
programme as part of an
AUS$25m (R246m) investment
to increase engagement in the
programme.
Members will pay lower fees for
international reward flights and
have access to more seats but will
need more points for upgrades and
premium cabins. The airline will also
introduce a new loyalty tier.
The new policies are applicable to
the South African market, confirms
Michi Messner, regional manager
of Qantas South Africa, adding that
the points increase for premium
cabins better reflect the value of
the experience that customers enjoy
in these cabins. “The points for
premium cabins have not increased
for close to 15 years and in that
time the product has improved a lot.”
If more seats are being made
available, clients may be willing
to pay more in points, says Taryn
Tibble-Vega, senior corporate travel
consultant of Sure Stellenbosch
Travel. Taryn says having flexibility
to buy seats and upgrades using
points that passengers have paid a
lot of money to accrue is important
to them.
