NEW direct flights between
Johannesburg and Ndola
are expected to bring lower
fares to the market.
Proflight Zambia will
launch the direct connection
on September 2. With an
interline agreement with
kulula.com, this will further
enhance connections
within South Africa, says
Proflight Zambia’s sales and
marketing manager, Barbara
Namwila.
The route is currently
serviced by SAA and Airlink,
with up to three flights a
day between them. “More
competition means better
pricing,” says Andree
Venter, travel manager at
Corporate First Travel. She
says, despite the lucrative
nature of mining, mining
companies operate within
strict budgets, so any
chance of better prices is
welcome.
The route will be serviced
three times a week on
Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays. Flights will depart
Ndola’s Simon Mwansa
Kapwepwe International
Airport at 08h05, arriving
at OR Tambo International
Airport at 10h35. The
return flight departs JNB at
11h40, arriving in NLA at
14h10. The route will be
serviced by a Bombardier
CRJ with 50 economy-class
seats.
In 2018, the Zambian
government injected more
than US$1 billion (R13bn)
into upgrades for four major
airports in the country,
including Ndola.
