KANANELO Makhetha
has been appointed
Club Travel Corporate
ceo, effective April 1. He will
be based at the company’s
Rosebank, Johannesburg,
office.
He may be a new face
at Club Travel but is an old
friend to many in the industry.
He comes with 30 years’
experience in travel and has
had extensive experience in
tourism too.
Kananelo was most recently
ceo of Travelex Africa, which
was acquired by Tourvest
Financial Services last
month and where he oversaw
operations in South Africa
and sub-Saharan Africa. He
was in the position for nearly
five years. He also served as
md of BCDTravel for nearly
20 years, where he was
responsible for the strategic
direction of the company. He
started his career at Rennies
Travel as a product manager
and then as gm of Leisure
Travel Development.
In addition to his roles in the
private sector, Kananelo was a
member of the South African
government’s ministerial
task group for tourism sector
transformation in 2002; was
president of Asata between
1998 and 2001; and served
as a board member of SA
Tourism.
Kananelo holds an MBA
from the University of the
Witwatersrand and a Bachelor
of Commerce from the
University of Lesotho. He is
passionate about education
development and since 2011
has been the President of
the Board of Trustees for
Education Africa, an education
and upliftment-focused NGO.
