Somalia has unveiled a plan to construct a new airport in the Habaay area, just 35km from Mogadishu. The airport is expected to be a large-scale international facility and will reportedly be named the New Mogadishu Airport, reports nation.africa.
Somalia’s Ministry of Transport says the construction of the airport is a strategic decision due to a significant rise in outbound and inbound air traffic and growing demand for international access.
Somalia recently joined the East African bloc, providing access to eight regional markets – Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.
