Namibia has won the bid to host the African Hospitality Investment Forum (AHIF) in 2024.
AHIF is an investment conference that facilitates communications between business leaders from the continental and international market, encouraging investment in tourism projects, hotel developments and infrastructure across the continent.
The Bench is the AHIF’s official organising partner for the conference in Namibia next year.
“AHIF2024 promises to be a landmark event that cements Namibia’s position as a premier destination for tourism and a favourable hub for investment. We eagerly anticipate welcoming delegates from across the globe and showcasing Namibia’s renowned hospitality, charm and investment possibilities,” said the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB).
It said winning the bid to host the conference was a milestone in Namibia’s economic growth and development, as it signified the recognition of the country as a significant player in the growth of African tourism and investment.
Hosting AHIF2024 aligns with Namibia’s commitment to improving its hospitality and tourism sector, which contributes 14% of the gross domestic product of Namibia and creates 100 000 employment opportunities.
According to the Bank of Namibia, total foreign tourist arrivals rose year-on-year to 96 755 in the fourth quarter of 2022, from 56 916 in the fourth quarter of 2021.
“The recovery was partly due to the easing in travel restrictions as the economy continued to open up, in addition to positive developments in the vaccine roll-out worldwide.”
The increase in the airport passenger arrivals reflected both international and regional arrivals. These total arrivals were 17,6% less than the fourth quarter of 2019, pre-pandemic, said the Bank’s bulletin.
“Our goal is to create an impactful event, backed by our robust private sector, the support of relevant government authorities and the enthusiasm of stakeholders in our hospitality and tourism sector,” said NIPDB.
