The world’s first LEGO tramway on a fixed track has been unveiled in Budapest and is now on display at Deák Ferenc Square.
It was made from 1,8 million LEGO bricks, weighs six tons and measures 11,5m in length. It took a team of 90 builders over 6 800 hours to construct it, according to Hungary Today.
While this unique tram does not transport passengers, it was transported to its exhibition site by two shunting engines.
Visitors can marvel at its intricate design and add their own LEGO bricks to the base plates beneath the tram, making it an interactive masterpiece.
Mayor Gergely Karácsony emphasised the iconic role of yellow trams in defining “Budapest-ness” and highlighted the LEGO tram’s symbolic nod to public and sustainable transport.
The LEGO tram will remain on display for a month.
