Charley the African elephant is retiring from a long career of enchanting visitors at the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria.
After 23 years, Charley will be retiring to the Shambala Private Game Reserve to enjoy his golden years. Due to Charley’s advanced age, careful preparation needs to be undertaken to ensure the success of his relocation.
A team at the game reserve and the EMS foundation for the protection of animal rights and welfare, are partnering with elephant trainers and veterinarians to make Charley’s relocation a success.
At Shambala, Charley will be cared for by international and South African veterinarians and elephant behaviour experts.
