Maya Bay, a popular tourist destination in Koh Phi Phi Leh, Krabi Province, Thailand, is now closed to visitors.
The scenic attraction closed on August 1 for natural rehabilitation during the monsoon season. It will remain closed until September 30.
The closure also aims to ensure tourist safety, as strong winds and waves during the monsoon can create hazardous conditions, particularly at Ao Loh Samah Pier, the entrance to Maya Bay, where tour boats will not be able to dock during this period, reports Bangkok Post.
Maya Bay was made famous 24 years ago by the Hollywood film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It now attracts hundreds of thousands of travellers every year.
Between October 1, 2023 and July 22, 2024, Maya Bay saw 1,68 million visitors.
