The Kruger National Park’s first seasonal luxury tented camp concession – Kruger Untamed: Tshokwane River Camp – will be opened in July by mobile tented camp and private safaris specialist, Chiefs Tented Camps.
Located in one of the most animal-dense locations of the KNP, previously unexplored by visitors and close to Tshokwane picnic site, Kruger Untamed: Tshokwane River Camp will be available for stays during winter months only.
The camp is an hour from Skukuza airport and can accommodate up to 60 guests in 30 luxurious tents. Activities include wild walks, game drives, and nights under a canopy of stars.
Throughout the summer season, the Ripape riverbed near the camp is filled with seasonal waters. However, when winter arrives, the riverbed undergoes a transformation, becoming a spot where guests can indulge in sunset drinks, play yard games, or take a dip in the pool. The camp is taken down at the end of the season, leaving the area looking as though it had never been there.
Tshokwane River Camp’s luxury tented suites measure 24sqm, and comfy duvets, soft blankets and hot-water bottles are provided for added warmth in winter. Each tent also has a hot shower and toilet en-suite.
“We wanted to offer guests the opportunity to experience the Kruger like never before… amid nature and completely enveloped in the sheer beauty of the bush,” said Allan Johnstone, co-founder of Chiefs Tented Camps.
Co-founder, Lysta Stander, said: “Once you’ve experienced luxury camping in the Kruger, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better way to get that close to nature – just reconnecting with yourself or a loved one, in a setting of sheer luxury and comfort.”
Chiefs Tented Camps is part of the Motsamayi Tourism Group, which was behind the iconic Kruger Shalati – Train on the Bridge.
“We are extremely excited to offer this incredible experience to visitors of the Kruger National Park, where the footprint on the ecological system is light but the experience is deep. We look forward to welcoming guests to Kruger Untamed: Tshokwane River Camp and are proud of the team delivering another unique and iconic product to South Africa’s tourism product line,” said Jerry Mabena, CEO of Motsamayi Tourism.
Chiefs Tented Camps will also open a sister camp in Satara – set to launch in 2024.
